Switching modes to keep everyone up on adaptation

The past two weeks, including the Threshold Test, rather than continue down the road of high intensity, shorter duration intervals, we took a step back and rolled through a couple of sessions of Threshold Intervals, at lower percentages of the new numbers that were achieved. You can't go hard all the time. Sometimes, you have to recover and let your body help you relax, and sort of fall in love with the gentler aspect of cycling. I love riding, and I love riding hard, but honestly, the best riding doesn't always come with a series of gasps, pants, and racing heart rate or searing legs. It comes from the perpetual tick tick tick of the legs as they circle the bottom bracket, and almost seamlessly roll you over hill and dale. We'll continue the lower intensity workouts for the rest of this week, and then, like a "Blue Norther" coming down across the Panhandle of Texas, we'll dive straight in to serious, hard-core Anaerobic Capacity and Vo2 intervals, so that everyone fulfills their potential on the Texas roads and trails this spring and summer.

Remember, it's not going to get any easier...

New Thresholds mean new loads on your legs and lungs, and new definitions of fortitude, determination, and suffering. Now, it's all about shuttling the pain in to your pinky toe, like a lightning rod that sends a charge from the sky, and grounds it in the earth. Push the pain out, and just wait. 10 extra seconds will put you past the breaking point of previous efforts. That 10 will become 20, then 30, then 50, then a minute. After that? Hey - time to test again!

More results from LT test, Week 5

D.R. - 144 to 154 (+6%) M.B. - 196 to 243 (+19%!!!) B.D. - 94 to 142 (+33%!!!!) E.H. - 162 to 172 (+6%) There were 1 or 2 people in each class that experienced flatlines or drops, and honestly, that's normal. No one can go 100% or experience incredible gains all the time. And those who had the most gains, well, had the most to gain. We won't see gains like this all the time, and for the more experienced cyclists, 1-2% is quite satisfactory. For older cyclists, just holding on to the new numbers can in itself be a feat. But no one is losing watts, and dimes to donuts, those with flat efforts or lower values can certainly come back and get even stronger over the next six weeks. I may actually re-test them in two weeks, just to make sure the efforts that flatlined were a fluke.

First results from Week 5 Threshold Test...

WB: From 160 to 171 (+6%) JK: From 229 to 247 (+7%) LV: From 161 to 178 (+10%) DM: From 232 to 234 (1%) Other results to come -all report feeling stronger, riding with more stamina, climbing with more fortitude, and either keeping up with packs, or leading them. Will publish w/kg results later.
